We've all said "I'm fine" when we're anything but. If you've ever pushed through a hard season alone, wondering if what you're feeling is "bad enough" to talk to someone about, this is for you. Therapy isn't just for crisis moments. It's for anyone who wants to feel better.
Talking therapy involves talking to a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Talking therapy is for anyone who's going through a bad time or has emotional problems they need help with. It can help all sorts of people in lots of different situations. For many adults it may be more effective than medicine.
How talking therapy can help
Sometimes it's easier to talk to a stranger than to relatives or friends. During talking therapy, a trained counsellor or therapist listens to you and helps you find your own answers to problems, without judging you.
The therapist will give you time to talk, cry, shout or just think. It's an opportunity to look at your problems in a different way with someone who'll respect you and your opinions.
Usually, you'll talk one-to-one with the therapist. However, sometimes therapy can be held in groups or couples, such as relationship counselling or group counseling
Talking therapy does not make your problems go away, but you may find it easier to cope with them and feel happier.
Therapy can help with everyday struggles like stress, low mood, relationship problems and feeling stuck. It's also effective for anxiety, depression, eating disorders, phobias and addictions as well as more complex conditions like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Wherever you are, there's no threshold you have to cross to deserve support.
You can access therapy in whatever way works best for you, face-to-face, over a video or phone call, through online courses or in group sessions. Flexible, confidential and on your terms.
